What is a bikini tummy tuck (ABDOMINOPLASTY) ?

A Bikini Tummy Tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin, and in most cases restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging.

During tummy tuck procedure usually done under general anesthesia loose, stretched out muscles are tightened and excess skin and fat are removed. The result is a tighter looking abdomen. The procedure usually takes about 3-4 hours and the recovery period depends on the extent of loose muscle and skin prior to surgery. Most patients return to work within 2-4 weeks.

Recovery and Results

You will most likely need to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and provide comfort and support as you heal. Drainage tubes and sutures are usually removed within a week or two after the surgery. As with any major surgery, pain, bruising, and swelling are normal, and will typically subside within several weeks. Your scar will fade considerably over time and with proper diet and exercise, you can enjoy a firmer, flatter abdomen for years.
